1. Get an idea of the dress code.
It’s important to get a sense of the company dress code before your interview - that way, you don’t risk being too overdressed (or worse, underdressed!). Take a look at the company dress code via their social media, about page, careers page, and so on. What do people wear to work everyday? Is it casual or business professional?
2. Dress a level above what you see.
After you’ve done some homework on the company and have a sense of its dress code, dress a level above. Remember, you’re dressing to impress. While you want to show the employer that you can fit in, you also want to show respect by dressing up a little for the occasion. Show them you’re serious about the opportunity by going a little further with your attire.
3. Think about the details.
Details matter! So, make sure your clothes fit correctly, your shoes match your outfit, and there are no random coffee stains on your shirt. You’d be amazed at the little things people notice when they first meet you.
P.S. Don’t forget to be well-groomed, too! That means, no chipped nail polish or uncombed hair. So, think about your appearance as a whole, not just your outfit. Oh, and while you want to smell fresh, don’t overdo it on the body spray.
Dressing for success isn’t hard. Before your next interview, carefully consider these things so you can go into your interview feeling confident, capable, and connection-ready! For more help, book an appointment with Longwood University Career Services.
