With Longwood’s Commencement ceremony just one month away, we asked seniors to share some final thoughts about their time at Longwood.

What’s your favorite thing about Longwood?

For Drew Pelkey ’17, a communication studies major and Senior Class President, it’s all about connections.

“My favorite thing about Longwood is the connections that professors have with their students. At Longwood, students are a name rather than just a seat in the class. I have had many mentors during my time at Longwood – they all encouraged me to grow and helped me succeed.”

What advice do you offer to freshmen?

“Get involved!” Katie Stewart ’17, a therapeutic recreation major, advises freshmen to take advantage of all of the opportunities and experiences Longwood as to offer.

“Being involved in organizations, my major and all the traditions Longwood has to offer was the best thing I could have ever done during my time here.”

What is one of the best lessons you’ve learned while in college?

“College is a great time to reinvent yourself or become who you really want be.”

“Longwood is an easy adjustment for kids coming from a small town. It was easy to make friends and develop connections that will stay with me for life.”

Is there something you found at Longwood that you weren’t expecting?

“Opportunities. Longwood offers amazing opportunities to be a leader and step outside your comfort zone.”

Is there something you found at Longwood that you didn’t expect?

“I found a family. After joining a sorority and changing my major to communication studies, I felt at home at Longwood.”

Why did you come to Longwood?  Has your experience lived up to what attracted you here in the first place?

“Originally, I wanted to attend another university. I planned to transfer there after my freshman year, but Longwood quickly grew on me!”
