Dual Degree in Engineering
How Dual- Degree Works
- Three years at Longwood
- Years four and five at your institution
Dual-Degree Engineering students attend Longwood for the first three years to complete courses listed under A, B and C of the Longwood Physics degree requirements.
Your work in these three years will also fulfill some requirements of the first two years of the BS degree at ODU.
At the beginning of the fourth year, provided the appropriate academic requirements have been met, you'll transfer to the second institution and take appropriate engineering courses as designated by the adviser at the second institution.
Once you complete the necessary Longwood requirements at the second institution, and the credit hours are transferred back to Longwood, the student will be awarded the BS degree in Physics from Longwood.
When all prescribed courses are fulfilled at the second institution, the student is awarded the second degree by that institution.
You can receive two degrees, one from each institution, in roughly a five-year period.

Requirements
The course requirements for the Dual-Degree Engineering Program are almost identical to the Longwood Physics major for the first three years, except for special electives required by the cooperating institutions.
Please consult with your Longwood advisor to make sure these elective requirements are met.
- 120 hours are required for graduation from Longwood with a cumulative average of 2.0 and with no grade below C- in a physics course.
- General elective hours for the Longwood physics requirements that are not fulfilled at the time of transfer will be taken at the second institution.
- Longwood will award transfer credit for courses passed with grades of C or above at the second institution.

Cooperative Academic Program
In addition to the dual-degree engineering program, Longwood University has a cooperative program agreement with the University of Virginia. In this program, student position themselves for graduate studies in engineering.
