Psychology Course of Study

Freshman year

Courses to take:

  • Psyc101 (Introduction to Psychology)
  • Psyc151 (Biopsychology)
  • Math171 (Statistics)
  • start taking courses that fulfill Goals 1 - 10

Other:

  • start making connections with professors
  • consider selecting a minor or a double major 

Sophomore year

Courses to take:

  • Psyc233 (Research Methods)
  • Psyc234 (Quantitative Methods)
  • courses from the I/O, Developmental, or Preclinical/Counseling concentrations
  • continue working on Goals 1 - 10
  • elective courses

Other:

  • begin planning internship
  • consider independent research
  • consider selecting a minor
  • continue fostering connections with professors

Junior year

Courses to take:

  • courses from the I/O, Developmental, or Preclinical/Counseling concentrations
  • Psychology lab course
  • courses that fulfill Goals 11 - 15
  • elective courses

Other:

  • fill out Application for Degree form with an advisor before the end of Spring semester
  • complete internship
  • consider independent research
  • if considering graduate school, sign up to take GRE before end of Fall of senior year & begin research on graduate programs

Senior year

Courses to take:

  • Psyc457 (History & Systems)
  • Psyc460 (Advanced General Psychology)
  • Psyc461 (Senior Seminar)
    460 & 461 can be taken either semester, but should not be taken together*
  • courses that fulfill Goals 11 - 15
  • elective courses

Other:

  • ask professors who know you well to write letters of recommendation for grad school or jobs (be sure to give 2 weeks' notice at minimum, self-addressed stamped envelopes and a resumè€)
