Social Work

Field education in social work is a critical component in the completion of student training.

Field Education integrates the social work program goals and objectives through applied field education training and experiences.

After you complete coursework and field education, students should meet expectations as entry-level generalist social work practitioners.

Requirements

  • Must be a social work degree candidate (SOWK 330, 425, and 430)
  • Major grade point average 2.3
  • Overall grade point average 2.3

Junior Field Instruction

  • Agency placement or field practicum concurrent with integrative coursework
  • 180 hours of instruction in a field setting

Senior Field Instruction 

  • 500 hours (15 weeks, 40 hours per week) of field instruction in an agency setting

Practicum Experiences

Practicum experiences are readily available throughout the state, and many students choose to live at home during this experience.

Non Credit Bearing

The Social Work Program, in compliance with CSWE accreditation standards, grants no academic credit for life experience and/or previous work experience in lieu of the field practicum or in lieu of courses in the professional foundation content areas.

Communication Sciences & Disorders

Observation experiences with a licensed, certified speech-language pathologist or audiologist are available in a variety of settings, including public schools, private practice, hospitals, and clinics. The observation field experience helps students meet the requirements for national certification.

The master’s program provides additional intensive field experiences.
