Dear Faculty & Staff,

As the semester moves into full gear, you may have seen in the news over the holiday weekend that the General Assembly is nearing agreement on the state budget. Exact details are still coming into focus, but the effect will likely be positive for Longwood, increasing our total university budget by as much as 1.5% to 2% for the year. At the state level, there are a variety of procedural steps still ahead over the next days and weeks to finalize the budget and its specifics (especially in light of the unusual timing, with the fiscal year already underway), but it's encouraging to see the direction of this progress, which would be that much more momentum for the year. Stay tuned.

On campus, it's also a delight to see the JPB hitting stride. Fittingly, the first event following the grand opening last month will be our annual Convocation ceremony, just over a week from now on Thursday, September 14 at 4:00. Farmville Mayor Brian Vincent will give the keynote address, and like always the campus community in full is welcome to attend. Basketball schedules will also be announced soon, and our campus partner for the management of JPB, the Centers group, is also looking forward to beginning to announce upcoming touring acts and concerts.

Many thanks to you all,

President Reveley
