Angelica Blanchette
Associate Professor of Education

Ang Blanchette is an associate professor of Reading, Literacy & Learning (RLL) in the College of Education and Human Services. She served six years as RLL program director, three years as chair or vice-chair of Graduate Council, two years as chair of the Graduate Research Symposium, and one year as chair of the Department Graduate Curriculum Committee. She regularly teaches READ courses in Word Study, Reading Research, Reading in the Content Areas/Disciplinary Literacy, Understanding Dyslexia, and Professional Portfolio.

Ang is the current president of the Monticello Chapter of the Virginia State Literacy Association. She is a liscenced teacher (PK-8) and reading specialist (PK-12) in the state of Virginia. Her background includes teaching and serving as a literacy specialist at the elementary level, consulting and tutoring K-12, as well as curriculum development.

Ang earned her Ed.D. in Reading Education from the University of Virginia in 20015.  She is a co-author with Dr. Gary Borich of Effective Teaching Methods 10^th ed. (Pearson, 2021) and has delivered numerous conference and workshop presentations. Topical and research interests include the neuroscience of the reading brain, dyslexia, structured language for word-level learning, and mentoring student research.

She was honored to receive the 2019 Faculty Excellence in Supporting Graduate Research & Inquiry Award from Longwood University. Student mentoring and collaboration has resulted in the participation of 23 students in the Graduate Research Symposium since 2016, 13 of which received presentor awards, the development of professional literacy training courses offered through Longwood Professional Studies, the delivery of professional presentations at state conferences, and a peer-reviewed journal publication: Blanchette, A.D., Campbell, K.R., & Stiff, K.K.
