Alex Grabiec is an artist and educator based out of rural Virginia. His photographic work considers fatherhood, how we see ourselves through images, and the relationship that photography has with narrative. Born in 1984, Alex earned his BFA in 2007 from Longwood University and in 2016 an MFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art. He has exhibited his work at the New York Art Book Fair at MoMA PS1, the Indianapolis Museum of Contemporary Art, the Katzen Art Center at American University, and at the Ogden Museum of Southern Art.

As the curator of exhibitions at The Longwood Center for the Visual Arts, Longwood University’s art museum, he is responsible for curating and organizing a range of historic and contemporary exhibitions. As a faculty member in the Cormier Honors College for Citizen Leaders he integrates the exhibitions on view in the classes he teaches. Though the subject can vary from class to class and exhibit to exhibit, he incorporates field trips and artist visits to discuss and address themes of voice, representation, and intersecting contexts. Hands-on studio based art projects complement lectures, readings, and group discussions as he is an advocate for exploring all the ways in which the visual arts remain a necessary and profound way to communicate and express.
