Elizabeth Vercoe, an internationally renowned composer, will give a lecture Friday, April 12, at 7:30 p.m. in Molnar Recital Hall in Wygal.
Vercoe will share her story of becoming a woman composer during the first wave of feminism and its influence, as well as how it guided her to her numbered series of song cycles, each titledHerstory. The lecture, "Composing a Woman’s Life: Elizabeth Vercoe," free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Rosemary Sprague Cultural Enrichment Fund.
While on campus, Vercoe will coach music major Molly Bouffard who, for her senior voice recital, will perform Vercoe’s Herstory II: 13 Japanese Lyrics on Saturday, April 13, at 7:30 p.m. in Wygal. Vercoe also will coach the accompanying pianist and percussionists. Both the recital and a rehearsal of the Herstory II performers that Vercoe will lead Friday, April 12, from 3:30-5 p.m. in Wygal are free and open to the public.
Vercoe’s works have been performed across the world and she has won a number of national and international composition competitions and grants including the National Endowment for the Arts, Meet the Composer and the Artists Foundation. She currently teaches at Regis College outside of Boston.
The President's Diversity Fund has granted significant funding for Vercoe's visit.
