Gov. Robert F. McDonnell’s appointments to the Longwood University Board of Visitors include three alumni of the university —Colleen McCrink Margiloff ’97, Robert S. Wertz Jr. ’85 and Stephen L. Mobley ’93—and distinguished business leader Eric Hansen, president and CEO of Innovative Wireless Technologies.
Also, at the concluding Board meeting of the 2012-13 academic year last month, the Board of Visitors conducted its annual election of officers. Marianne M. Radcliff ’92, rector, Dr. Judi M. Lynch ’87, vice rector, and Ronald O. White, secretary, were re-elected unanimously to their positions, and Jane Sheffield Maddux was elected unanimously as member-at-large of the Board’s executive committee.
Colleen McCrink Margiloff ’97 and Robert S. Wertz Jr. ’85 are first-time appointments to the Board of Visitors. Margiloff of Rye, N.Y., is a philanthropist and former middle school teacher who also serves as president of the Longwood Alumni Association. Wertz of Leesburg is commissioner of the revenue for Loudoun County. Stephen L. Mobley ’93 of McLean, program manager for Thomson Reuters’ Scientific and Scholarly Research division, and Eric Hansen of Moneta, president and CEO of Innovative Wireless Technologies (IWT), were reappointed to the Board by Gov. McDonnell. All four were named to four-year terms.
Margiloff also serves on the board of Behind the Book, a nonprofit organization that motivates young people in New York City to become engaged readers. She has served on the university’s Alumni Association board since 2007 and has been president since July 2012, a position from which she will step down in light of her Board of Visitors appointment. She and her husband, Will, established the Margiloff Scholarship Fund at Longwood and led the successful New Donor Challenge. Their philanthropic activities also include establishing the Margiloff Charitable Foundation.
Wertz was first elected Loudoun County’s commissioner of the revenue in 2003 and has been re-elected twice since then. His current term runs through 2015. Prior to his election as commissioner of revenue, he had worked in the commissioner’s office since 1992 as manager of discovery, compliance, and relief, as a business license specialist, and as a tax audit/relief specialist. He has been a member of the Longwood Foundation Board since 2011 and served as president of the university’s Alumni Association from 1998-2000.
Mobley, first appointed to the Board of Visitors in 2009, has twice been member-at-large on the Board’s executive committee, chaired the university’s Compensation Task Force (2012) and was a member of the university’s presidential search committee, whose work resulted in the recent appointment of President W. Taylor Reveley IV. Mobley served on the Longwood Foundation Board from 2000-09. He worked previously for America Online and has a master’s degree in biochemistry from Georgetown University and an MBA from George Washington University.
Hansen, first appointed in July 2012 to fill out an unexpired term, launched IWT in 1997 as a spinoff from GE/Ericsson. He previously held engineering positions with Ericsson and Motorola. He is a graduate of the Rochester Institute of Technology and has a master’s degree from Florida Atlantic University.
At its June meeting, the Board of Visitors conducted its annual election of board officers, unanimously re-electing Marianne M. Radcliff ’92 as rector, Dr. Judi M. Lynch ’87 as vice rector, and Ronald O. White as secretary. The Board also unanimously elected Jane Sheffield Maddux as member-at-large of the Board’s executive committee.
Radcliff, a resident of Richmond, is vice president of Kemper Consulting. In addition to working as a private sector lobbyist for 15 years, she has held several positions in Virginia state government, including assistant secretary of transportation. She has a master’s degree from Bowling Green State University.
Lynch, who also is from Richmond, is principal of Saint Gertrude High School, her alma mater, the only all-female Catholic high school in Virginia. She worked previously for 20 years at Virginia Tech, where she earned a master’s degree and a Ph.D.
White, a resident of Midlothian, works in the Colonial Heights district office of U.S. Rep. Randy Forbes (R-4th). He previously served in the Army for 21 years, rising to the rank of lieutenant colonel. He is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and has a master’s degree from Bowie State University.
Maddux, a retired businesswoman and community leader who lives in Charlottesville, chaired the recent presidential search committee for Longwood. She was appointed by Gov. McDonnell in 2010 to the Virginia Board of Medicine, on which she is the only citizen member (nondoctor and nonlawyer). She works in public relations for the bimonthly magazine Virginia Sportsman. She is a current member of the Foundation Board at Mary Baldwin College, her alma mater, and a former member of Mary Baldwin’s Alumnae Board and Advisory Board of Visitors.
