Longwood University is again one of the best colleges in the Southeast, according to The Princeton Review. The education services company recently selected Longwood one of 139 institutions in its "Best in the Southeast" section of its 2015 Best Colleges: Region by Region survey.
"We selected Longwood and the other terrific institutions on our ‘regional best’ lists primarily for their excellent academic offerings," said Robert Franek, Princeton Review’s senior vice president and publisher. "We developed our lists to offer guidance for the growing number of students and parents now seeking colleges closer to home."
In this annual project, The Princeton Review asks students attending the schools to rate their own schools on several issues—from the accessibility of their professors to quality of the campus food—and answer questions about themselves, their fellow students and their campus life. Longwood was included in this list last year as well.
"We ask every question that a prospective applicant might want to ask on a campus visit," said Franek.
In addition to 139 schools in the Southeast region, which encompasses 12 states, "regional best" distinction also was awarded to 226 colleges in the Northeast, 124 in the West and 159 in the Midwest. Collectively, these 648 colleges constitute about 25 percent of the nation’s 2,500 four-year colleges. The 2015 Best Colleges regional list can be viewed here.
In late January, Longwood was one of 75 public institutions to be featured in The Princeton Review’s book, Best Value Colleges: 2014 Edition. This was the third consecutive year that Longwood has been named to this list.
