Mercifully, the rain held off for much of the day Thursday as the families of 1,100 students hauled televisions, refrigerators and suitcases full of clothes up stairs and elevators to awaiting residence hall rooms. Aided by the cheerful—albeit sweaty—Movers & Shakers in their blue T-shirts, the bulk of Longwood’s Class of 2021 moved in without a hitch. And, as family members said their tearful goodbyes and offered their final words of advice, the Longwood freshman class settled into the first day of the next four years of their lives.
