Farmville Mayor David Whitus '83 presents Joan Perry Brock '64 with a resolution honoring her philanthropic efforts and commitment to Farmville.

Applauding her generosity and “unrelenting support for Longwood University and the entire Farmville community,” the Farmville Town Council passed a resolution recognizing Longwood alumna Joan Perry Brock ’64, which was presented to her during Alumni Weekend on June 1.

Joan Perry Brock and her late husband, Macon, are well-known philanthropists who have a special commitment to higher education. Over many years, the Brocks have funded many important projects at Longwood, including Brock Commons, Brock Hall (the university’s student success center) and the Brock Endowment for Transformational Learning, which creates a group of signature travel-based courses studying important issues of our time.

Earlier this year, Longwood announced Brock had made the university’s largest-ever gift: $15 million to construct a convocation and events center that will also be the home of the university’s basketball teams, to be named the Joan Perry Brock Center.

Farmville Mayor David Whitus ’83 came to campus to present Brock with the resolution honoring her philanthropic efforts and commitment to Farmville.
