Alumni and Career Services continues to ramp up its efforts to help Longwood students and alums find rewarding careers, holding Longwood’s first Career Prep Week in October.
More than 300 students and alumni participated in a week of activities that led up to this fall’s Job, Internship and Graduate School Fair. Participants attended “best practices” workshops focused on resume writing and the do’s and don’ts of a successful job search, and they connected with experts via Instagram and Twitter for a Digital Day of Career Advice.
Teresa Dodson, assistant director of employer engagement and internship services, described the week’s events as a “fast track” to gaining critical job-search skills and knowledge.
“Preparing students to talk to professionals in their future career fields was one of our primary goals,” she said. “A lot of what was taught in one week would probably take several trips to our office.”
Alumni who were involved in the week’s activities included Jocelyn Blanchard ’99 with Carmax and Chris Tunstall ’88, assistant vice president for human resources at the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond. Tunstall led a “best practices” workshop on how to dress professionally, how to network effectively and how to find the job of your dreams. Blanchard presented a workshop about LinkedIn.
