Student Organizations
Dean's Student Advisory Council (DSAC)
As members of the Dean's Student Advisory Council, undergraduate and graduate students are the official student spokespeople for the College. Participants in this program are afforded an opportunity for enhancing professional growth, interacting with the University and with the community and for enhancing their public relation skills.
Lancer Alliance
Lancer Alliance is an organization recognized by Longwood University, designed to support, encourage, and provide assistance to members seeking professional opportunities at the local, state, and national levels. Membership in this organization is open to anyone with an interest in physical education, athletic training, exercise science, community health, therapeutic recreation and dance.
Lancer Alliance Seeks To:
- Encourage, guide, and support professional growth and development in health, leisure, and physical education.
- Communicate the importance of health, leisure, and movement-related activities as they contribute to the human body.
- Coordinate and administer a planned program of professional, public, and government relations that will improve education in areas of health, leisure, and movement-related activities.
- Conduct other activities to benefit the university and the community.
Education
Kappa Delta Pi
Kappa Delta Pi is an International Honor Society for educators. Pre-service and current educators interested in professional development, community service, and leadership opportunities are welcomed.
Student Council for Exceptional Children (SCEC)
Students in the Special Education program are strongly encouraged to become members of the Council for Exceptional Children.
This student group meets monthly to discuss and share Special Education related information and events. They also organize some activities with the area schools to promote the educational outcomes of children with disabilities and arrange parties for children enrolled in classes for students with severe disabilities.
In the past some members of this group have volunteered in the "Read to a Child" program at Prince Edward Elementary School. This group also participates in the "Oktoberfest" celebrations on campus.
Involvement in this group provides an opportunity for the members to demonstrate their leadership skills.
Counseling
Chi Sigma Iota, Phi Chapter (Counseling Academic & Professional Honor Society International)
Chi Sigma Iota is the international society for students, professional counselors and counselor educators established at Ohio University in 1985. Its mission is to promote scholarship, research, professionalism, leadership and excellence in counseling, and to recognize high attainment in the pursuit of academic and clinical excellence in the profession of counseling. Recent community service projects include a food drive to benefit area residents.
Health, Recreation, Kinesiology
Phi Epsilon Kappa
Phi Epsilon Kappa Fraternity is a national professional fraternity for persons engaged in or pursuing careers in physical education, health, recreation, human performance, exercise science, and athletic training. Membership is open to all persons interested in the purposes of the Fraternity and providing time and energy for the benefit of the above-mentioned areas. Longwood University's chapter invites individuals to become members.

Outdoor Club
Many students who minor in Outdoor Education also are involved in the student Outdoor Club.
This club provides students with opportunities to experience additional outdoor activities not found in the academic classes. In addition, the Outdoor Club provides leadership opportunities for those students interested in furthering their skills and qualifications in outdoor or adventure education.
Therapeutic Recreation Organization (TRO)
TRO is a student organization dedicated to the advancement of therapeutic recreation students through fieldwork experiences, leadership opportunities, and community service.
TRO seeks to:
- Promote and develop an interest and understanding of the field of therapeutic recreation within the Longwood University and local community.
- Provide opportunities for the members to develop citizen leadership and community involvement through volunteer services.
- Provide social opportunities for students to develop lasting friendships

Social Work & Communication Science and Disorders
Federation of Student Social Workers
The Federation of Student Social Workers is an organization comprised of students, primarily social work majors, that combines social justice and awareness with social activities. The purpose of the Federation of Student Social Workers is to provide a professional organization through which students can coordinate their interest and act cooperatively and effectively on behalf of all social work students, those they serve, and the community at large, in an attempt to gain a total life experience.
Operation Smile
The Operation Smile Club of Longwood University was founded in 2013. We have approximately 55 members from a number of majors, including CSDS, Nursing, Education, Business, and HARK. Phi Alpha - National Social Work Honor Society
Phi Alpha is a national Social Work Honor Society. The purpose is to advance excellence in social work practice and to encourage, stimulate and maintain scholarship of the individual member in all fields, particularly in social work.
National Student Speech-Language-Hearing
The National Student Speech Language and Hearing Association (NSSLHA) is a pre-professional membership association for students interested in the study of communication sciences and disorders. Membership in national NSSLHA is available to undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral students enrolled full- or part-time in a communication sciences program or related major.
The Longwood University Chapter of NSSLHA seeks to promote the awareness of the professions related to communication sciences and disorders through on-campus learning and service activities.
